APPLICATION FOR ADMISSIONS INTO UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE
PROGRAMMES AND NON DEGREE PROGRAMMES FOR THE
2014/2015 ACADEMIC YEAR

Sokoine University of Agriculture invites Applications from qualified Tanzanians and
non-Tanzanians for admission to the degree, diploma and certificate programmes offered by the
University in the academic year 2014/2015.
Applicants who wish to apply for bachelor degree programmes shall apply through Tanzania
Commission for Universities (TCU). This includes those candidates with “A” level qualifications
(Direct entry), with diploma qualifications (Equivalent entry) and Recognition of Prior Learning
(RPL). More information on mode of application is available on TCU website. Those who wish to
apply for Diploma and Certificate programmes shall apply directly to the University.
A. GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
DIRECT STUDENTS: Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (C.S.E.E.) (Ordinary level)
or equivalent with passes in four relevant subjects AND two principal level passes in the
Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (A.C.S.E.E.) in relevant subjects.
EQUIVALENT STUDENTS: Candidates with Credits or Distinctions at Diploma level with either
passes in four relevant subjects at ‘O’ level or two principal passes of at least ‘E’ grade at ‘A’
level.

B. SPECIFIC ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelor of Science in Applied Agricultural Extension:
Distinction or credit Diploma in Agricultural and Livestock fields already working in
extension field will be eligible if they have passes in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany
or Zoology or Science and Practice of Agriculture. This is a mid-level programme and is thus
not intended for A-level applicants.

2. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture General:
Two Principal level passes in Chemistry, Biology/Botany, Physics/Mathematics and Sciences
and Practice in Agriculture in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education or its
equivalent OR Diploma/Certificate in Agriculture or related fields.

3. Bachelor of Science in Horticulture:
Two Principal level passes in Chemistry, Physics, Biology/Botany/Zoology, Mathematics,
Geography and Sciences and Practice in Agriculture in the Advanced Certificate of
Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diploma/Certificate in Agriculture/Horticulture or
related fields.

4. Bachelor of Science in Animal Science:
Two Principal level passes in Biology/Botany/Zoology/, Science and Practice in Agriculture,
Chemistry Physics or Mathematics in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education or its
equivalent. OR Diploma/Certificate in Animal Husbandry/ Animal Health/ Agriculture or related
fields.

5. Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology:
Two Principal level passes in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Home Economics,
Mathematics,Food Nutrition, and Science and Practice in Agriculture in the Advanced

Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diploma/Certificate in Food
Science/Home Economics or other related fields.

6. Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Studies:
Two Principal level passes in Chemistry and Biology, Home Economics, Science and Practice
in Agriculture ,Food and Nutrition, Mathematics, Physics or Geography in the Advanced
Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diplomas with distinction/credit in
Human Nutrition or Home Economics or Clinical Medicine or Community Development or
Nursing and other related fields.

7. Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition:
Two Principal level passes in Chemistry, and Biology or Home Economics or Agriculture or
Food and Nutrition, and Mathematics or Physics or Geography in the Advanced Certificate of
Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diplomas with distinction/credit in Human
Nutrition or Home Economics or Food Science or Nursing or community development or
Clinical Medicine and other related fields.

8. Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering:
Two Principal level passes in Mathematics and Physics /Chemistry/Geography and at least a
credit pass at O level or its equivalent in Physics and Chemistry/Biology/Science and
Practice of Agriculture in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent
OR Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or equivalent qualifications with an average grade of C
and at least a B grade in Mathematics level OR Diploma in Agricultural Engineering or related
fields.

9. Bachelor of Science in Bioprocess and Post-Harvest Engineering:
Two Principal passes in Mathematics and Physics / Chemistry /Geography in the Advanced
Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent and at least a credit pass at O level or
its equivalent in Physics and Chemistry/Biology/ Science and Practice in Agriculture in the
Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diploma in Agricultural
Engineering or related fields with a credit pass in Mathematics in the Certificate of
Secondary Education Examination.

10. Bachelor of Science in Irrigation and Water Resources Engineering:
Two Principal level passes in Advanced Level Mathematics and
Physics/Chemistry/Geography and at least a credit pass in Physics and Chemistry/Biology/
Science and Practice in Agriculture at Ordinary Level Certificate of Secondary Education
Examination or an Equivalent Examination OR NTA 6 Certificate or equivalent qualification
with an average grade of C and at least a “C” grade in Mathematics

11. Bachelor of Science in Agronomy:
Two Principal passes in Biology/Botany, and in either of the following: Chemistry, Science
and Practice in Agriculture, Physics/Mathematics, or Geography in the Advanced Certificate
of Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diploma/Certificate in Agriculture or related
fields.

12. Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness:
Two Principal passes in Physics, Mathematics, Economics, Chemistry, Geography, Science
and Practice in Agriculture , Biology/Botany/Zoology in the Advanced Certificate of
Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diploma in Agriculture or related fields.
13. Bachelor of Science in Aquaculture:
Two Principal level passes in Biology/ Botany/Zoology/Science and Practice in Agriculture,
Chemistry and Physics/Mathematics/Geography in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary
Education or its equivalent OR Diploma in Aquaculture, Fisheries, Natural Sciences, Animal
Health/ Agriculture Production or related fields.

14. Bachelor of Science in Range Management:
Two Principal level passes in Biology/ Botany/ Zoology, Science and Practice in Agriculture,
Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Geography in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary

Education or its equivalent OR Diploma in Range Management, Animal
Husbandry/Production, Animal Health Agriculture or Wildlife Management.

15. Bachelor of Science in Forestry:
Two Principal level passes in Biology/Botany and Chemistry or Physics/Geography in the
Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diploma in Forestry,
Bee-keeping, Wildlife Management or Agriculture (with forestry component).
16. Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Management:
Two Principal level passes in Biology/Botany/Zoology or Chemistry or Physics or Geography
in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diploma in Wildlife
Management, Forestry, Bee-keeping, Animal Health or Animal Production

17. Bachelor of Tourism Management:
Two Principal passes in Biology, Geography, Chemistry, Physics, Science and Practice in
Agriculture, Mathematics, and Food and Nutrition; Home Economics in the Advanced
Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent. The sum of points from at least two
subjects should not be less than 4.5. Candidates with principal passes in Economics,
Commerce or Languages should in addition have a pass in Biology at “O” Level OR Diploma
in Tourism, Hotel Management, Catering, Nutrition, Home Economics, Agriculture,
Education, Forestry, or Wildlife Management.

18. Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine:
Two Principal Level passes in Chemistry, Biology/Zoology, Physics, Geography or Science
and Practice in Agriculture in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education or its
equivalent OR Diploma in Animal Health, Animal Production, Wildlife, Fisheries or relevant
fields

19. Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology and Laboratory Sciences:
Two Principal level passes in Chemistry, Biology/Zoology/Botany, and the other in Physics,
Mathematics, Geography or Science and Practice in Agriculture in the Advanced Certificate
of Secondary Education or its equivalent. Of these, at least TWO must be passed at the
Principal Level and must include Chemistry and Biology/Zoology/Botany OR Diploma in
Medical Laboratory Technology, Veterinary Laboratory Technology, Applied Biology, Applied
Chemistry, Animal Health, Animal Production, Wildlife, Agriculture, Fisheries, Forest,
Bee-keeping

20.Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences and Management:
Two Principal level passes in Chemistry, Physics, Biology/Botany/Zoology, Advanced Level
Mathematics/Geography/Science and Practice in Agriculture in the Advanced Certificate of
Secondary Education or its equivalent. Of these, Chemistry is mandatory and must be
passed at principal level. Candidates without a Principal level pass in Advanced Level
Mathematics should have passed Basic Applied Mathematics at the subsidiary level OR
Diploma/Certificate in the fields of Physical, Chemical or Biological sciences.

21.Bachelor of Science in Informatics:
Two Principal level passes in Advanced Level Mathematics and any other Science subjects in
the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent OR relevant diploma in
ICT and related fields.

22. Bachelor of Science with Education: (Chemistry & Biology)
Two Principal level passes in Chemistry and Biology in the Advanced Certificate of
Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diploma in Education.

23.Bachelor of Science with Education: (Geography & Biology)
Two Principal level passes in Geography and Biology in the Advanced Certificate of
Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diploma in Education.


24.Bachelor of Science with Education: (Chemistry & Mathematics):
Two Principal level passes in Chemistry & Mathematics in the Advanced Certificate of
Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diploma in Education.

25.Bachelor of Science with Education: (Informatics & Mathematics):
Two Principal level passes in Mathematics and Physics/Geography/ Chemistry in the
Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diploma in Education

26.Bachelor of Science with Education: (Geography & Mathematics):
Two Principal level passes in Geography and Mathematics in the Advanced Certificate of
Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diploma in Education.

27. Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education:
Two Principal passes in science subjects one of which must be Biology in the Advanced
Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent OR Diploma in disciplines of Agriculture
and Livestock and allied disciplines.

28.Bachelor of Rural Development:
Two Principal passes in History, Geography, Economics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or
Practice and Science of Agriculture in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education or its
equivalent. The sum of the total points from the two principal level passes should not be
less than 4.5 OR Diploma/Certificate in Rural Development or Agriculture or Agricultural
Education or related fields.

C. SPECIFIC ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATE AND DIPLOMA
PROGRAMMES
1. DIPLOMA IN INFORMATION AND LIBRARY SCIENCE
Advanced Level Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least one
Principal Pass in one of the following subjects: mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry,
science and practice of agriculture, geography, economics and commerce, history, English,
French and Kiswahili OR Certificate in Librarianship or other relevant disciplines with
O-Level passes in at least three subjects. A working experience of one year for certificate
holders is an added advantage.
2. DIPLOMA IN RECORDS, ARCHIVES AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
Advanced Level Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least one
Principal Pass in one of the following subjects: mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry,
science and practice of agriculture, geography, economics and commerce, history, English,
French and Kiswahili OR Certificate in Records/Office Management or relevant disciplines
with a minimum of 2nd class and O-Level passes in at least three subjects. Working
experience of at least one year for certificate holders is an added advantage.

3. DIPLOMA IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Advanced level Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least one
Principal Pass in one of the following subjects; Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry,
Science and Practice of Agriculture, Geography, Economics and Commerce. OR A Certificate
in Information Technology, Engineering or other relevant disciplines from a accredited
Institution and Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education passes in at least 3 subjects.
Working experience of one year will be an added advantage.

4. DIPLOMA IN TROPICAL ANIMAL HEALTH AND PRODUCTION
Holders of appropriate certificates such as Certificate in General Agriculture and Animal
Health (Agrovet), Certificate in Animal Health and Production (AHPC), Certificate in
Agriculture and Livestock Production (CALP). A holder of such a certificate should have a
minimum of three credit passes at O level in Biology/Zoology/Botany, Geography,
Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics at Tanzania Certificate of Secondary Education
Examination (CSEE) or equivalent.

5. DIPLOMA IN LABORATOTY TECHNOLOGY
Advanced level certificate with passes in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Of
these subjects one must be passed at principle level with total points of TWO. Candidates
with advanced level passes in combinations without biology MUST have passed biology at
credit level in O-level OR Basic technician Certificate from recognized institutions with A
certificate of Secondary education with principle passes in Biology and Chemistry, and trade
test Certificate of at least Grade II

6. CERTIFICATE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Applicants for admission into the Certificate in Information Technology must have
passed in at least three subjects at Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE)
which will make the total point to be four (4).


D. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

(ii) Diploma and Certificate applicants
Diploma and Certificate applicants should apply directly to SUA by filling forms obtained
from Admission Offices (Room No. 212 and 226 in the Main Administration Building) or
downloaded from www.suanet.ac.tz
(iii) Applications to all programmes must be accompanied by a non-refundable application fee
of twenty thousand shillings only (20,000) for Tanzanians and USD 30 for Foreigner
applicants paid through SUA account (CRDB 01J1076769836)
(iv) All applications must be accompanied by genuine copies of relevant certificates, four
passport size photographs. Applications without photocopies of certificates and bank pay
slip will not be considered
(v) Applications with Foreign Secondary School Certificates should be accompanied by
National Examinations Council (NECTA) Equivalence translations
(vi) All applicants should meet the minimum stated qualifications. Applications which will not
meet stated qualifications will not be processed
(vii) Candidates applying for certificate and diploma courses should return to the undersigned,
the applications forms duly filled not later than 20th September, 2014
